Anemone hupehensis is a late-summer flowering perennial prized for its elegant, saucer-shaped blooms and its exceptional ability to thrive in partial shade.
Flowering from August into September — and often extending into October in mild conditions — it provides valuable colour and cutting material at a time when many other plants are past their best. Unlike sun-hungry cut flowers, Anemone hupehensis performs beautifully in cooler, lightly shaded positions, making it ideal for north-facing borders, woodland-edge gardens, and shaded cutting beds.
Its tall, slender stems rise above fresh green foliage, producing airy, graceful flowers that work equally well in garden planting and floral arrangements. Seeds can be sown in autumn or late winter to early spring. Germination is slow and irregular, preferring cool conditions and light to germinate. Once established, plants are low-maintenance and should not be pinched. They prefer moist, well-drained soil and will gradually form reliable clumps that return year after year.
