Anemone ‘Sylphide’ brings a burst of jewel-toned colour to the early season cutting garden, with its rich, magenta-pink petals and striking black centres. Each flower seems to glow against its fine ferny foliage, making it a standout both in the garden and in the vase. With strong stems, abundant flowering, and excellent vase life, this is one of the most reliable anemones for cut flower growers and florists alike.

When to Plant : October - April

In areas with mild winters  the corms can be planted in the autumn and overwintered outdoors with a little protection ( e.g. low  tunnel or frost cloth.)  In colder areas it is advisable to plant later  at the end of winter or in early spring. If corms are exposed to temperatures below freezing, they will freeze and ultimately rot once they thaw, so be sure to protect them from extreme cold and plant deep enough to avoid the corms freezing.

How to Plant French Anemones : Soak the corms in  water for 3-6 hours so that they plump up and re hydrate.

For best result pre sprout the corms  ( Which will also give earlier blooms) :  Fill a flat-bottom seed tray half full  with moist compost. Place the claws with the pointy bit downwards  onto the soil and cover them with a sprinkle of soil over the top. Leave the tray in a cool place  at  4°C–10° for 10 to 14 days checking them every few days, making sure the soil is moist but not soggy and remove any corms that show signs of mould or rot. (They may need protection from rodents as they love to eat them )

Planting out: Once the white rootlets start to appear  and the first sets of leaves have  formed they can be planted in their final locations. Plant  in pots or beds with plenty of  organic fertilizer 10 - 20cm apart and upto 10cm deep.
