A statuesque herb with aromatic stems and umbels of pale green-white flowers. Both ornamental and edible — perfect for borders or near water. Its candied stems and fragrant seeds are prized in traditional confectionery and gin making.

 

When to sow: Sep-Nov

 

HOW TO SOW ANGELICA:
Cold stratify at 5  to -4°C for 4–6 weeks.

Sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost and lightly cover with soil or vermiculite. Light is needed for germination. Ideal temperature 18–22°C. Transplant seedlings to individual pots once they have two true leaves.

  • Care: Prefers deep, moist, fertile soil. Likes to grow near water and benefits from staking on exposed sites. Easy to grow but prefers cool conditions.

 

  • Use: Herb/Ornamental - Roots can be used in the first year; stems in the second year. Seeds appear in the second to third year. Leaves, flowers and stems can be used raw or cooked.
