A refined and elegant variety, producing large, softly ruffled blooms in the palest creamy yellow. Far more subtle than traditional orange marigolds, this variety brings a softer, more sophisticated look to borders, cutting gardens, and mixed planting schemes.

As well as their ornamental appeal, African marigolds are valued in companion planting, commonly grown alongside vegetables and other crops in kitchen gardens and allotments. Tall, upright plants flower generously throughout summer and into autumn, thriving in sunny, free-draining positions.

Easy to grow, heat-tolerant, and dependable in UK conditions, ‘Buttercream’ combines practical garden benefits with a calm, elegant colour palette — ideal for gardeners who want beauty with purpose.

When to Sow: Mar - May

HOW TO SOW MARIGOLDS:
Sow into trays or modules filled with fine, free-draining compost. Place seeds on the surface and cover lightly with compost or vermiculite. Water gently and keep warm — 18–22 °C is ideal.
Seedlings usually appear within 7–14 days. Once large enough to handle, prick out or pot on carefully. Harden off well before planting outside after the last frost.
