ring beautiful texture, movement and soft, romantic colour to your garden with Melinis nerviglumis ‘Savannah’. This stunning ornamental grass produces masses of delicate, feathery flower plumes in shades of dusky pink, mauve and soft burgundy, held above graceful clumps of fine green foliage.

As the season progresses, the fluffy flower heads catch the light beautifully, creating an almost shimmering effect in the garden. Perfect for adding softness and movement to mixed borders, prairie-style planting and contemporary garden designs.

Melinis ‘Savannah’ is also a wonderful choice for the cutting garden. Its airy, arching stems make beautiful additions to fresh floral arrangements, adding height, texture and a natural, meadow-inspired feel. The plumes can also be dried for everlasting arrangements.

Flowering from late summer into autumn, this elegant grass thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. In the UK, it is generally grown as a half-hardy annual, making it a fantastic addition to summer borders and seasonal cutting gardens.

When to Sow: March–May indoors. Direct sow outdoors May–June

HOW TO SOW:
For best results, sow indoors in seed trays or modules, placing 4–6 seeds per module. Surface sow and lightly press the seeds into the compost, or cover with a very fine layer of vermiculite. Maintain a temperature of 20–22°C and keep the compost moist but not waterlogged. Once germinated, grow on in a bright position. Harden off and plant outdoors after the last frost, spacing plants 30cm apart.

Alternatively, sow directly into finely prepared soil once temperatures are consistently warm.
