Aquilegia vulgaris 'Black Barlow' is one of the most striking columbines you can grow, producing fully double flowers in sumptuous shades of deep plum, blackberry and near-black purple. The intricate, pompom-like blooms float above elegant, ferny foliage, bringing movement, texture and drama to borders, cottage gardens and naturalistic planting schemes.
Blooming from late spring into early summer, these long-lasting flowers are highly attractive to pollinators and make unusual additions to cut flower arrangements. Their rich colouring is particularly valuable for creating moody, romantic planting combinations inspired by classic cottage gardens.
When to Sow : Feb–Jun or Sep–Oct
HOW TO SOW AQUILEGIA: Autumn sowings can be overwintered in a cold frame and planted out in spring.
