Soft sky-blue blooms have that ethereal, airy quality florists can’t get enough of — perfect for bridal work, meadow-style arrangements, and anything that needs a light touch. Plants produce a generous run of elegant stems all summer, each topped with star-shaped flowers that dance in a bouquet.
 
When to Sow : Sep & Feb- May
 
HOW TO SOW DELPHINIUMS :
May need Cold stratification.
Spring Sowing - seeds should be placed in the fridge for two weeks prior to sowing, then surface sow onto moist compost, just covering with a little vermiculite as they need light to germinate. Place in a propagator with lid or into a poly bag to keep evenly moist. Ideal temp 15-18°C. Bottom heat will speed up germination.
Autumn Sowing - Sow as above and leave under glass to cold stratify naturally. In spring once the weather warms germination should occur.
 
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to individual pots.
 
Grandiflorum delphiniums are short-lived, but they’ll overwinter if you give them sharp drainage and protection from winter wet. Plant in gritty soil, cut back lightly after flowering, and keep the crown on the dry side through the cold months.
