This isn’t your average spinach. ‘Red Vein’ brings beauty and bite to the veg patch, with striking ruby-red stems and veins running through glossy, deep green leaves. Perfect for cut-and-come-again salads or stir-fries, this quick-growing leafy green thrives in cooler months.

 

When to Sow: Mar-Sep

 

HOW TO SOW SPINACH: Sow thinly into drills 1.5cm deep in well-prepared soil or modules under cover. Water gently. Thin seedlings to 15cm apart. For baby leaf, harvest when 10–15cm tall. Sow every 3 weeks for a regular crop.

  • Site: Full sun/Part shade

 

  • Soil Type: Will grow in most soils
  • Soil Acidity: Neutral/Alkaline
  • Moisture: Moist but well drained. Keep soil consistently moist to avoid bitterness.
  • Harvest: Cut regularly to encourage fresh growth. Mulch to retain moisture during summer. Protect from pigeons and slugs. Cut leaves from 6–8 weeks after sowing, or earlier for baby leaves.
