Compact, jewel-red ears that look just like oversized strawberries, held on tall, architectural plants. Grown for both ornamental impact and popping, these richly coloured cobs are perfect for autumn displays — and can also be dried and popped into traditional popcorn.

When to Sow: Apr - May

HOW TO SOW:
Sow in pots - Sow thinly into pots or modules of damp compost. Cover with 4cm of soil. Ideal temp 20-30°C.  Grow on until all risk of frost has passed, then harden off before transplanting out into final cropping location 45cm apart in blocks to aid pollination.

  • Classification: Half Hardy Annual
  • Expert Level:  Easy to Grow
  • Germination Time: 1-2 Weeks
  • Harvest Time: Sep - Oct
  • Site: Full/ Sheltered Sun

  • Soil Type: Will grow in most soils
  • Soil Acidity: All
  • Moisture: Well drained
  • Care: Water well in hot weather
  • Use: Ornamental / Popping corn

  • Harvest: Once cobs are fully mature and dry. Husks should be papery and brown, the cob firm to the touch, and kernels deep red and hard — if a fingernail dents a kernel, it’s too early, so leave it longer. After harvest, remove husks and dry cobs further somewhere warm and well-ventilated. Only pop once kernels are fully dry — if they’re even slightly soft, they won’t pop properly.
